Natural gas is one of three fossil fuels that are vital to the world’s energy supply. A fossil fuel is the remains of plants and animals that lived millions and millions of years ago. Natural gas is one of three fossil fuels, oil and coal being the other two, which are non-renewable energies. Although it is a non-renewable energy, people have been using natural gas like it would always be their as long ago as 900 BC in China. People collected the gas by burning it to evaporate water and leave the salt from the brine behind. By AD 900, gas was being sent through bamboo pipes in China to supply the people’s energy needs for heating, cooking, lighting etc. Some of the things we use at home are energy supplied by natural gas, but we never really think beyond to where this natural gas could have come from.Natural gas is a mixture of many different combustible hydrocarbons, making it shapeless, odorless, and colorless. Before natural gas is refined, it is composed of gases like methane, ethane, propane, butane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen sulphide, and other rare gases. After natural gas is refined, it is in its purest form made up of mostly all methane. Methane is also known as ‘marsh gas’ because it is sometimes found bubbling up marshes in rotting vegetation underwater. Other components of natural gas, like those mentioned earlier of propane, ethane and so on have a little difference to their chemical formulas. When natural gas is almost pure methane, it is considered ‘dry’ because the other components associated with natural gas, the hydrocarbons, are mostly removed. Natural gas can also be ‘wet,’ meaning that the hydrocarbons are abundantly present. This all depends on how refined the natural gas is.
Natural gas can be found under the surface of the earth, although there are many other ways for methane and thus natural gas to be formed.Geologist have had to come up with new technology and exploration techniques to find where these natural gas reservoirs are and how to get the natural gas itself. Back in the old days, when they didn’t know anything about natural gas, a lot of myths and stories were made up as explanations to why when lightning strikes the earth, fire lights up out of no where.Nowadays, we don’t need to wait for lightning to strike to find out where a natural gas reservoir could be.
For geologists to come up with ways to find out how to get energy resources like natural gas must make it a vital part of the world’s energy supply. Natural gas is often found wherever oil is found due to the fact that so many of the world’s oil fields also produce significant amounts of gas. Large gas fields have been discovered in recent years in the North Sea, Russia, Canada, Australia, and Algeria. Reserves of natural gas come from other parts of the world as well. electricity.
The global community should go make a television program on people to promote more gas cookers. You can self ignite it, and it only produces energy when you want it too. Adding to that, in the same factory, the emission is none the less any harmless to the environment, and you can control how much you want to pay and how much pollution gets emitted.
If the global community persisted this, I think it would change my life. My days would be much healthier because I do no longer smell all these chemicals as much. I also would be much happier, because the environment would be greener without acid rain, and green is a sign of life and happiness. I think that the way most people cook would be different, although I wouldn’t have to change because I already have a gas oven and cooker. I think I would definitely see much cleaner an environment, but hopefully not cars as ugly. People would take the initiative to focus more on what they are doing, because with natural gas, it’s often a do it yourself thing. Cooking with gas needs self ignition, self cleaning etc. And given that responsibity, I think it would change my mess into neatness, and the same effect for the world.
If you wrote it yourself, you would get Band 7 in the IELTS exam for such writing.
