Should college athletes be paid for playing?

Athletes are very important part of an institution. Because they are representing the institution on an higher level and also play an important role in building good reputation of the institution as well.There are mix views about giving stipend to the college athletes. In my opinion do not pay college athlete for playing because they are already getting scholarship for representing the college. They get fee wavier from the college and good health and coaching staff to make them fit for the games. No doubt they work hard but what about other students who do not play but they also represents the college on different competition. Should college has to pay to them as well. It will put some extra burden on the college and the tax payers.College need extra money to fulfill their necessities. College should set a merit or some process or set of rules, college should pay to only those athletes who really in need of get paid for playing games. On the other hand some people think that college athletes should be paid for playing and representing the college. Because they work extra hard. like they take classes and work on their body in the gym to make sure they will stay in shape and fit for the game. they take classes int he morning and in the evening they go to have a practice to improve their game. This will be injustice with them if college do not pay them back.So at the in my opinion college should not pay to athletes to playing games only those who are needy.
