Is Russia becoming powerful?

Russia was in a sad state after the cold war but now it has roared back to life. Today, Russia is an economic powerhouse that is blessed with an abundance of natural resources. This can be easily justified by the following statements. Russia is the second largest producer of oil on this planet. Currently it is supplying 34% of the Europe’s natural gas needs. If compared with United States then, the United States has a debt to GDP ratio of 101 percent. Russia has a debt to GDP ratio of about 8 percent. The United States had a trade deficit of more than half a trillion dollars last year. Russia consistently runs a large trade surplus. The United States has an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent. Russia on the other hand has an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent. All the above facts and figures are more than enough for stating that yes Russia is becoming more powerful.
