Man lives in the society. Man learns speech, manners and philosophy in the society. He works and moves in the society. He earns his livelihood in the society. Society gives protection to his life and property. But sometimes vices creep into the society. And the society is guided by misconceptions and superstitions. In this case, society does immense harm to its members. To make the society free of evils and vices, social reform is required. For example, I can suggest some of the changes for Pakistan in the 21st century.
First of all, we have to eradicate poverty as it is considered to be the first and foremost challenge, Pakistan faces in the 21st century. More than a third of the population falls below the poverty line. The infant mortality rate is shocking with nearly ten percent of children dying before age five. Today in Pakistan, informal associations of dedicated volunteers are trying to address the basic social needs at the local level. So instead of tackling complex issues such as democracy and globalization, I will prefer to deal with the most basic concerns of human survival in the first place.
The second change my part will be the removal of illiteracy in our country. Concentrated efforts must be made to ensure every child has access to basic education. Reforms in education may include financial aid or educational grants especially for those kids who cannot afford even schools due to poverty. Moreover I will try my best to make education pragmatic in such a way that it becomes a key to technical skills that will be marketable in the job market. Especially the sixteen-years education of different fields available in Pakistan, should include career counseling and guidance so that students will be able to make better choices for their future.
The third change I recommend is to revive or revitalize the economy of Pakistan. Privatization in economy can save taxpayer’s money, increase flexibility, allow policy makers to steer rather than row and improve efficiency by stimulating innovation. Furthermore, we should strengthen our economy by attracting potential foreign investors in order to improve trade balance in Pakistan. Even there is a need to go for political reforms in order to remove corruption and injustice so that the common citizen get empowered and allowed a voice in the politics of Pakistan.
Such changes or reforms will take time but if I am enthroned, I will try my best to bring such reforms according to the rules and if we work hard, then failure is a word unknown to me.
